WATCH: Bears players go wild after getting to know about Caleb Williams $25.5 million signing bon

Caleb Williams appeared giddy while announcing his signing bonus with the Chicago Bears. And the reaction of his teammates was eye-catching, to say the least.

If pre-season HBO Hard Knocks is anything like the promo they dropped on Thursday, then football fans are in for a treat. After wrapping up the New York Giants segment of their two-part documentary, the network will not release the Bears half on a weekly basis.

The promo contained a short clip of Caleb Williams announcing his signing amount with his Chicago Bears teammates.

Caleb Williams went to USC and Oklahoma. Horns down still. Fight on, and my signing bonus is $25.5 million.

The entire room began buzzing with the revelation, but there was one person who felt the full force of the news. It was Williams’ backup quarterback Tyson Bagent who appeared to be having seizures after hearing the enormous number. It makes sense because the second-year receiver will earn $923,333 in 2024, which is a far cry from Williams’ salary.

Caleb Williams’ contract breakdown

The Chicago Bears selected Williams first overall in 2024. Being the No. 1 player taken in the draft always means a lot of money, and the Bears did not shy away from doing just that.

Williams signed a four-year $39,486,058 contract to play in Chicago, where he previously had doubts about settling because of the windy and cold weather. As per Spotrac, his contract includes a $25,537,132 signing bonus, $39,486,058 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $9,871,515.

In 2024, Caleb Williams will earn a base salary of $795,000 and a signing bonus of $25,537,132. He has a cap hit of $7,179,283 and a dead cap value of $39,486,058.

The Bears are confident that they have found their franchise and long-term quarterback. General Manager Ryan Poles used the offseason to great effect, adding valuable offensive players like Keenan Allen, D’Andre Swift, and Rome Odunze.

Earlier this week, Poles extended the contract of former first-round wideout DJ Moore, who credited the move to Williams.

After training with the Heisman Trophy winner for a few months, Williams concluded that the 22-year-old was the real deal.

I think Caleb [Williams] is going to be excellent. He’s going to be a superstar. I just wanted to be a part of that.
DJ Moore said per NBC Chicago

Williams did not feature during the Hall of Fame game at Canton against the Houston Texans on August 1. He might, however, play the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills on August 10.
